Project CARS - Formula Gulf League - Sonoma Raceway Short
« on: June 01, 2017, 12:11:21 pm »

Last time in Formula Gulf…

We had an eventful race that saw Gamer clinched the title and truly confirm the DA_best nickname.
Gamer started on a self-imposed mid to back of the pack, to make the race more interesting for him, but slowly but steady climbed his way up to second to battle it with Pancho for the first place. Gamer has completely dominated the championship and is a truly deserved champion.
Pancho achieved an undisputed pole being the only one in the 1:26s and had a good start and comfortable first half of the race until Gamer caught him up. Eventually Pancho triumphed and got his first victory in this championship.

Kali started the race in a comfortable second place in the championship, and had a good start to the race jumping from fourth to second, but a temporarily loss of comms when he was running third meant he went straight to the gravel and into the wall. This crash meant he could only managed an eighth position and now his second place in the championship is challenged by Pancho.

The race also saw Rossi achieving his first podium of the season, Jaydot, Kablo, Bananajosh and Parkwaydrive battled the mid field and newcomer Holyreams getting a handful of good points.

After a controversial start of the season, with reported invisible walls, glitches, fragility of the cars and the continuity of the Formula Gulf class in doubt, everything seemed to fall in place and a thrilling season was delivered. And in this way, the final race of the season is here and we head to California in the United States to Sonoma Raceway Short with everything in play apart from the title already clinched by Gamer.

Pending on official results, provisional tables means Kali has a 32 points lead over Pancho, but with his dominating performance at last race Pancho will try to capitalise on this and look for another bad result for Kali and get the second place. Only 7 points separate Jaydot and Frome, so that will be another battle to watch for. Likewise, Kablo and Rossi are only 4 points apart, and the difference between Bananajosh and Parkway drive is just 3 points, so this race promises to bring battles across the field with everything to fight for. Holyrealms will also be hoping for a more consistent drive, after the maiden stage nerves are gone, and he has promised to get more mileage under his belt and reach Sonoma with more confidence.

Questions:
1 – Have you enjoyed this season?
2 – Best / most enjoyable race?
3 – Any personal rivalry that stands out?
4 – Class suggestions for a potential next season?

Super write up Kali, really good. Great to hear the car bedded in after some initial concerns. The old Gulfs can make for some fun and close racing, but if you tangle wheels your done for! lol

1 – Thoroughly, especially compared to the previous GT3 season in which I was always at the back of the pack and lapped in a few occasions, this season I had a surprisingly good pace, not so much in qualifying but managed consistent podium finishes
2 – Best single moment was Sakitto when starting 4th or so, managed to get up to second after the first few corners and then slowly caught up Gamer and managed to pass him in lap 3 or 4. Only to go into the gravel all by myself when one lap later Gamer was about to pass me back, lol
Best overall race Zhuhai with an epic first few laps and 4 or 5 cars all fighting with each other
3 – No rivalry really, as I spent most time running in no man’s land
4 – Lotus classic 67 (type 49), Caterham 7 classic, Ginetta G40 GT5
